The FIFA Club World Cup group stage has come to a close, and what a thrilling ride it has been! The best clubs from around the world have battled it out on the pitch, showcasing their skills, tactics, and sheer determination for success. As the group stage wraps up, let’s take a look a review of the highlights, surprises, and standout performances that have defined this stage of the tournament.
In Group A, Palmeiras and Inter Miami CF emerged as the top two teams, securing their spots in the knockout stage. Palmeiras topped the group with 5 points in 3 group matches, while Inter Miami finished second with the same 5 points, but Palmeiras claimed the top spot due to a better goal difference.
Group B saw Botafogo pull off a major upset to end second in the group after securing same 6 points with table toppers Paris St. German. PSG topped the table with goals difference.
Meanwhile in Group C, Benfica and Bayern Munich also made it to the round of 16 . Benfica came top in the group after beating Bayern Munich in the group games However, Boca junior and Auckland City were the casualties of the group as they were sent packing from the tournament.
In group D, another Brazilian team CR Flamengo topped the group with 7 points ahead of Chelsea FC who came second with 6 points
Group E, saw inter Milan topping the group with 7 points while Monterey came second with 5 points. CA River plate and Urawa Red Diamond were the teams that got kicked out of the tournament.
In Group F, Borrusia Dortmund and Fluminnese made it to the round of 16 at the detriment of Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan HD.
Group G had an expected outcomes with Manchester City and Juventus making it to the knockout stage of the competition while Al Ain and Wydad Casablanca were the casualties of the group.
Lastly, group H saw the biggest club in Europe Real Madrid topping the table with 7 points while Al Hilal took the second position with 5 points a point ahead of Salzburg who got sent out with Pachuca.
